A gentle beginning starts with knowing what to expect.
Everything you need to feel comfortable, prepared, and at home at Mother Goose Cottage.
✨ What is the heart behind Mother Goose Cottage? At Mother Goose Cottage, childhood is honored as a time of wonder, imagination, and gentle growth. Our sessions are inspired by Reggio Emilia principles, with a soft nod to Waldorf rhythms. This means we focus on open-ended play, natural materials, and a predictable rhythm that helps children feel safe and grounded. Here, play is not rushed or directed—it unfolds naturally, with space for curiosity and imagination to lead.
🧸 Why do you focus on open-ended, Waldorf-inspired play? Open-ended play invites children to become thinkers, storytellers, and creators. Instead of toys that “do the playing,” we offer materials that become whatever a child imagines—a silk can be a river, a cape, or a baby blanket. This kind of play supports creativity, emotional regulation, independence, and confidence. It may look simple, but it is deeply meaningful work.
🌼 What makes this experience different from a typical playgroup? Mother Goose Cottage is intentionally designed to feel calm, cozy, and connected. You’ll find: Small, thoughtfully sized groups A peaceful, uncluttered environment Natural, beautiful materials A gentle, guided rhythm to each session It’s less about “keeping children busy,” and more about creating space for meaningful play and connection.
🎒 What should we wear and bring? We keep things simple and comfortable. Please plan for: Shoes off inside the cottage (barefoot or grippy socks are perfect) Comfortable, play-friendly clothing Layers for a cozy, slightly cool indoor space What to bring: A water bottle (filtered water is also available) A small bag for personal items Please note: To keep the space clean and safe, no food or drinks are allowed during sessions.
🧺 Where do strollers and belongings go? Stroller parking is available just outside the cottage. Inside, there is a designated area for bags and personal items so the play space can remain calm and uncluttered.
📍 Where are you located, and how does parking work? Mother Goose Cottage is tucked into a private, peaceful space in Bushnell's Basin, designed to feel warm and welcoming. Free parking is available onsite Easy access from parking to the entrance Full address and arrival details will be shared as part of registration.
👨👩👧 Can I bring an additional caregiver or family member? Our sessions are intentionally small to preserve a calm, connected environment. If you’d like to bring an additional caregiver or family member, please email in advance to request approval. We do our best to accommodate when space allows.
⏰ What does a class feel like? Each session follows a gentle, predictable rhythm. We begin with arrival and free play, move into a simple shared experience (such as circle time, story, or seasonal activity), and allow space to return to play before closing. This rhythm helps children feel secure, settled, and free to explore.
🌿 Is this the right fit for my child? If you’re drawn to slower mornings, imaginative play, and a peaceful environment, you’ll likely feel right at home here. This space is especially well-suited for children who benefit from calm, open-ended exploration rather than fast-paced or overstimulating settings.
🤒 What if my child is sick? To keep our community healthy, we ask that you stay home if your child (or anyone in your household) is unwell.
💌 What are your registration and cancellation policies? Pre-registration is required for all sessions Sessions are non-refundable If you’re unable to attend, you may transfer your spot to another family with advance notice
